Chandigarh, Jan 11: Minimum temperatures plummeted across Punjab and Haryana on Sunday, with several regions recording lows well below the seasonal average.
Bathinda emerged as the coldest spot in Punjab, shivering at a minimum of 1.6 degrees Celsius. In neighboring Haryana, Hisar recorded the state’s lowest temperature at 2.2 degrees Celsius. Dense fog accompanied the chill, significantly dropping visibility across both states during the early morning hours.
According to the weather office, “Several parts of Punjab and Haryana reeled under intense cold conditions,” with Chandigarh, the shared capital, recording a night temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.
The freeze was widespread; Faridkot touched 2.9 degrees Celsius, while Amritsar and Patiala recorded 3.2 and 3.8 degrees respectively. In Haryana, the “piercing chill” was felt deeply in Rohtak and Narnaul, which saw the mercury dip to 4 degrees and 3 degrees Celsius.
