New York, May 6: Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan made a sensational first appearance at the 2025 Met Gala, turning heads in a bespoke all-black ensemble by acclaimed Indian designer Sabyasachi. The star-studded fundraising gala was held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday night.

Khan, often referred to as ‘King Khan’, brought his signature charisma to the blue carpet, blowing kisses and striking his iconic arms-wide pose. His look was anchored by a floor-length Tasmanian superfine wool coat, hand-canvassed and single-breasted, adorned with monogrammed Japanese horn buttons.

He paired it with a crepe de chine silk shirt, tailored wool trousers, and a pleated satin kamarbandh.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” was interpreted by Sabyasachi through the lens of Black Dandyism, which he described as “a self-expression that defies societal, racial, and gender norms.”

“My interpretation of the Black Dandy is demonstrating his superstardom on a global stage,” Sabyasachi said in a statement on Instagram.

“Dressed in classic menswear with the maximalist flourish of Sabyasachi, Shah Rukh Khan is a magician, superstar, and icon. Period.”

Completing the striking look, Khan wore layered custom necklaces — one featuring a crystal-studded ‘K’ pendant — and carried a handcrafted Bengal Tiger Head Cane in 18k gold, adorned with tourmalines, sapphires, and vintage-cut diamonds.

His appearance at the gala was confirmed earlier on Monday by his longtime manager Pooja Dadlani, who posted cryptic Instagram Stories bearing Sabyasachi’s label and the captions “King Khan” and “King Khan. Bengal Tiger.”

The superstar reportedly arrived in New York on Saturday ahead of the gala, marking not only his debut at the Met but also a milestone moment for Indian representation on the global fashion stage.
