Chandigarh, March 23: A massive fire tore through an electrical equipment and crockery warehouse in Chandigarh’s Industrial Area Phase II on Monday morning. The incident, which disrupted local business operations, prompted a large-scale response from the municipal fire department after the emergency was reported around 9:30 am.

Fire tenders from the Industrial Area stations were dispatched immediately to the scene. Despite the prompt arrival of the crews, officials stated that the high volume of plastic materials and sensitive electrical components stored inside the facility hampered the dousing operations. Initial assessments suggest that a short circuit within the wiring likely ignited the blaze.

Witnesses and nearby traders affirmed that the fire appeared to originate within the crockery section before rapidly engulfing the adjacent electrical shop. This marks the second significant commercial fire in the city within a single week. Earlier, on March 18, a similar blaze devastated two floors of a building in the Sector 22 mobile market, requiring a four-hour operation to contain.

The fire department maintained that while the flames were eventually brought under control, the density of the stored inventory made the cooling process particularly challenging. “The large quantity of plastic and electrical items created difficulties in controlling the fire,” an official declared during the site inspection. No casualties were reported at the time of the preliminary briefing.
