Chandigarh, April 9: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has fined Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill ₹12 lakh after his team failed to maintain the required over-rate during their recent match against Delhi Capitals. The disciplinary action comes despite a victory for the Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where they secured a one-run win in the final over of the contest.

League officials confirmed that this represents the first offense for the Titans under the IPL’s Code of Conduct this season. According to a statement issued by the IPL, the penalty was applied under Article 2.22, which governs minimum over-rate requirements. Officials noted that while this initial infraction carries a financial penalty, subsequent violations could lead to doubled fines or a potential one-match suspension for the captain.

The match itself saw the Titans post a formidable 210/4, powered by Gill’s top-scoring effort of 70 runs from 45 deliveries. Contributions from Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar helped set a high target, which the Capitals nearly reached thanks to a 92-run performance from skipper KL Rahul. “The team showed great composure during a high-pressure situation,” a representative for the franchise stated, following the tense finish where Prasidh Krishna successfully defended the total.

Despite the narrow win, the focus turned to the procedural lapse on the field. Gill joins a list of captains, including Shreyas Iyer, who have faced similar sanctions this season as the BCCI continues its strict enforcement of match timings.
