Chandigarh, 9 January 2025: The Henley Passport Index 2025 places Singapore at the top as the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa-free travel to 195 countries. The ranking, based on International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, evaluates global travel freedom.
India’s ranking dropped to 85th this year, down five places from 80th in 2024. Indian passport holders currently enjoy visa-free access to 57 countries.
Japan ranks second on the index, with its passport granting visa-free access to 193 countries. France, Germany, Italy, and Spain share the third spot, each allowing visa-free travel to 192 destinations. Fourth place is held by Austria, Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Luxembourg (191 destinations), while Belgium, Portugal, Britain, Switzerland, and New Zealand claim fifth (190 destinations).
The US ranks ninth, providing visa-free access to 186 countries.
Afghanistan Remains at the Bottom
Afghanistan is ranked 106th, making it the world’s weakest passport, granting visa-free entry to only 27 countries. Syria, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia follow as the least powerful passports.
