CHANDIGARH, June 14: Relentless heat continued to grip Haryana and Punjab on Saturday, with Sirsa emerging as the hottest spot in the region, recording a sweltering 45.2 degrees Celsius. The western Haryana town has been enduring intense heat for several consecutive days, worsening conditions for residents.
The regional Met office reported soaring temperatures across both states. In Haryana, Hisar followed closely with 43.5°C, while Rohtak recorded 44.3°C. Narnaul touched 42.3°C, Ambala reached 42.8°C, Gurugram reported 41°C, and Karnal, though slightly cooler, still registered a high of 39°C.
Across the border in Punjab, Bathinda led with 43.8°C, marking it the state’s hottest location for the day. Other cities weren’t far behind—Patiala touched 42.6°C, Faridkot 42°C, Ludhiana 41.8°C, Amritsar 41.2°C, Pathankot 41.5°C, and Gurdaspur reported 40°C.
Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, also reeled under the oppressive heat, recording a maximum temperature of 42.2°C.
Meteorological officials warned that hot weather is likely to persist in the coming days, urging people to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
