NEW DELHI/Lucknow, June 20 — The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government submitted a status report in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court on Monday regarding alleged financial irregularities in donations received by the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, along with Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V. Mohana, is scheduled to hear the batch of petitions concerning the trust’s financial administration.
The batch includes pleas filed by advocate Narendra Kumar Goswami, petitioner Ajay Kumar Rai, RJD MP Sudhakar Singh, and the Hindu Dharma Parishad. Goswami maintained the need for preserving financial records and ensuring greater operational transparency. Meanwhile, Singh asserted that the investigation should be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation under court supervision, requesting a forensic audit and the creation of an oversight committee.
The filing follows a July 13 court order directing the state-constituted SIT to present a detailed account of its progress and composition after noting that multiple FIRs had been registered. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Centre and the state government, affirmed that the document was submitted under sealed cover to safeguard the ongoing probe. The bench subsequently declined the petitioners’ request for access to the report, observing that investigation proceedings remain active.
