Noida, Jan 19: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the death of a software engineer whose car plunged into a water-filled pit at a Noida construction site.
Following the directive, the state government immediately removed IAS officer Lokesh M from his position as the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, placing him on a waitlist.
The high-level panel consists of three members led by the Additional Director General of the Meerut Zone. Other members include the Meerut divisional commissioner and the chief engineer of the Public Works Department.
This administrative shake-up and investigation follow allegations of severe negligence regarding safety protocols at the development site in Sector 150.
“The team has been asked to conduct a detailed investigation and submit its report to the chief minister within five days,” a government spokesperson said in an official statement.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday when Yuvraj Mehta was driving home in dense fog.
His vehicle fell into an unmarked, flooded excavation. Local residents and the victim’s family have publicly blamed the local authority and private developers for failing to secure the area.
