Mansa, Sept. 13 — A sessions court in Mansa directed jail authorities to bring six accused in the Sidhu Moose Wala murder case to court in person during the next hearing on September 25, after the prosecution’s main witness said he could not identify them through video-conferencing.
Sessions Judge Manjinder Singh passed the order while considering a plea by Balkaur Singh, father of the slain Punjabi singer-turned-Congress leader, who is also the complainant and key prosecution witness. “I am finding it difficult to recognize the culprits on the screen,” Balkaur told the court, according to his counsel.
The judge instructed that accused Priyavart Fauji, Ankit Sersa, Deepak Mundi, Kashish alias Kuldeep, Sandeep Kekra, and Baldev alias Nikku be produced physically for identification. Advocate Satinderpal Singh Mittal, representing Balkaur, said the court partly recorded his client’s statement Friday and acknowledged the request for in-person production.
Moose Wala, born Shubhdeep Singh, was shot dead on May 29, 2022, near his village of Musa in Mansa district. The 28-year-old singer and politician was ambushed while driving his jeep with friends at Jawaharke. Assailants fired more than 30 rounds at his vehicle, killing him instantly.
Investigators later named Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar, believed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, as the mastermind behind the killing. Brar publicly claimed responsibility for the attack and has since been designated an “individual terrorist” by the National Investigation Agency.
“The court’s order ensures that my client can properly identify those responsible for his son’s death,” Mittal noted, adding that the next hearing will be crucial for the prosecution’s case.
