Chandigarh, October 29: The Punjab government has launched a major push to transform the state into North India’s tourism hub, unveiling six large-scale projects under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model to attract investment in tourism and hospitality.

At an investor conference organized by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB) in Chandigarh, officials said the initiative will blend Punjab’s rich heritage with modern development while ensuring transparency in investment processes.

The proposed projects include an urban ropeway in Amritsar, revival of historic sites such as Aam Khas Bagh in Sirhind and Darbar Hall in Kapurthala as heritage hotels, and the development of a Pinkasia Tourist Complex in Ropar. Additionally, Convention and Exhibition Centres will be established in Mohali and Ludhiana to promote business tourism.

“These projects will not only strengthen Punjab’s economy but also create world-class tourism infrastructure that reflects the state’s glorious history,” said a senior PIDB official.

Officials from the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department and Housing and Urban Development Department held detailed discussions with investors on project scope, timelines, and necessary approvals. The government assured that all investments would follow a competitive bidding and transparent revenue-sharing model.

“The PPP framework will be 100 percent transparent and investor-friendly,” an official noted, adding that private players were encouraged to give suggestions to fine-tune project terms.

The state government reiterated its commitment to providing a supportive environment for investors and positioning Punjab as a key destination for both leisure and business tourism.

“This partnership between the public and private sectors will help deliver a better experience for visitors while ensuring sustainable growth in the tourism sector,” the government said in a statement.

Officials described the event as a milestone in Punjab’s journey towards building a prosperous and progressive state, emphasizing that the projects represent “a new era of development and opportunity” in the tourism landscape.
