SHIMLA, Sept 21 — As part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada 2025, SJVN Limited, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE), handed over two electric vehicles for solid waste management to the Municipal Corporation, Shimla, on Sunday.
The vehicles were jointly flagged off from Mall Road by Shimla (Urban) MLA Harish Janartha and SJVN Director (Personnel) Ajay Kumar Sharma. Municipal Commissioner Bhupender Attri, along with senior officials from SJVN and the civic body, also attended the event.
Sharma said the company provided financial assistance of ₹25.44 lakh to the Municipal Corporation for procurement of the vehicles. “The deployment of these EVs will significantly strengthen Shimla’s cleanliness drive by enabling zero-emission garbage collection and contributing to improved air quality,” he noted.
He added that the initiative is aligned with this year’s Swachhta Hi Sewa theme, ‘Clean Green Festivities – Eco-friendly and zero-waste celebrations.’ “By supporting sustainable waste management solutions, SJVN reaffirms its commitment to environmental stewardship and corporate social responsibility,” Sharma said.
The Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign, being observed under the Swachh Bharat Mission, is in its ninth edition this year. The fortnight-long programme, themed ‘Swachhotsav,’ began on September 17 and will conclude on October 2, aiming to mobilise citizens nationwide in a collective effort towards cleanliness.
