KOKERNAG, Dec 29 — Heavy snowfall has forced the temporary closure of the Daksum-Sinthan Top–Chhatroo Road (NH-244) and the Gowran–Margan Top Road, officials said Monday. Traffic on both routes will remain suspended until conditions improve and roads are cleared of snow.
The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Kokernag cited overnight snowfall on December 28–29 and forecasts of continued snow in the coming days as the reason for the suspension. “The decision has been taken in the interest of public safety,” the SDM’s order stated.
Authorities said the roads will reopen only after snow clearance operations are completed and the routes are certified safe for vehicular movement. The Station House Officer (SHO) Larnoo has been tasked with enforcing barricades at designated points to prevent any unauthorized travel.
Officials appealed to motorists and the general public to strictly follow the closure orders to avoid accidents or other untoward incidents.
