Tarn Taran, Feb 19: An unverified claim by the Lakhbir Landa gang emerged on Thursday, asserting that the group was behind the shooting of AAP sarpanch Harbarinder Singh. The local leader was attending a marriage ceremony in Tarn Taran on Wednesday when he was targeted by gunmen. While the gang has declared its role in the act through social media, the Punjab Police asserted that they are still working to confirm the source of the message.

SSP Surendra Lamba maintained that the investigation into the broad-daylight shooting is being conducted with a focus on all possible angles. He stated that while earlier reports suggested a personal grudge might be the motive, the new claims from the Landa group have added a different dimension to the case. Officials affirmed that the culprits will face exemplary punishment once apprehended by the specialized units currently tracking them.

In the wake of the incident, the administration declared that senior local police officers were suspended for failing to ensure adequate safety measures at public gatherings. Government representatives maintained that the ongoing anti-gangster drive remains a priority and that such acts of violence will not be tolerated. Forensic teams and cyber experts are continuing their work to identify the assailants and the origin of the claim.
