SOLAN, Dec. 8 — Four alleged heroin peddlers were taken into three-month preventive detention as part of a district-wide crackdown on drug trafficking, the Solan police said on Sunday.
The detainees — Ankush Thakur, 36, Naresh Kumar alias Nishu, 37, Deepak Kumar alias Honey, 40, and Vikas alias Khaula — have been booked in multiple narcotics cases across the district. All four are suspected to be involved in the heroin trade in Kandaghat, Dharampur and Solan areas.
Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh said the action was taken under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 as part of a state-wide campaign targeting repeat offenders.
“We are acting against habitual offenders exactly as directed by the state government,” Singh said. “Four such offenders have now been placed under preventive custody for three months to disrupt their trafficking networks.”
The district police said ten habitual offenders have already been jailed this year under the same provisions, intensifying the pressure on organised drug traders.
