Panchkula, April 26:— A 22-year-old motorcyclist died after a speeding truck rammed into his two-wheeler on the Ghaggar River bridge near Majri Chowk on Friday evening, prompting a protest by local residents over emergency response delays.

According to Pushpinder, the complainant, his nephew Vikas was returning home from work at the Manimajra motor market, riding pillion with his uncle Rahul, when a truck allegedly being driven recklessly struck their bike from behind.

“The truck came at high speed and hit them suddenly,” Pushpinder said.

The collision threw Rahul off the vehicle, causing serious injuries. Vikas, however, came under the truck and died on the spot.

Rahul was rushed to the Sector 6 civil hospital. Vikas’s body was later taken to the same hospital for postmortem.

Pushpinder also raised concerns over the emergency response, stating that the ambulance failed to arrive for nearly an hour. “Even though the police reached quickly, they didn’t move the body. People were outraged and blocked the bridge,” he added.

The protest caused a traffic jam on the busy route until the authorities intervened.

Chandimandir police arrested the truck driver, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, and registered a case. An investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing.
