Gurdaspur, March 30 — An electrical short circuit at Gurdwara Sahib in Dham village, Gurdaspur district, injured the holy Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and several Gurbani books last night.
Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, visited the village this morning to assess the situation.
He met with the Gurdwara Management Committee and villagers to gather details and conveyed directives from Akal Takht and the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee (SGPC) regarding the proper maintenance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami expressed grief over the incident and stressed the need for stricter safety measures.
“Gurdwara administrators and the Sangat have been repeatedly advised not to leave electrical appliances running in the absence of Sewadars, but committees often neglect this,” he said.
Dhami urged Gurdwara committees to regularly inspect electrical wiring and equipment to prevent such accidents.
He also called for the mandatory presence of a Sewadar inside Gurdwara Sahibs at all times.
“This is essential to prevent such unfortunate incidents,” he added, appealing to the Sangat to remain vigilant and keep reminding committees about safety precautions.
