Amritsar, September 11 — Shah Rukh Khan’s Meer Foundation will help rebuild 500 homes devastated by recent floods in Amritsar district, partnering with the local NGO Voice of Amritsar (VOA) for relief and reconstruction work.

The foundation, known nationally for supporting acid attack survivors, will focus its efforts on two villages situated along the Ravi river, where floodwaters swept away houses and belongings.

Seenu Arora, founding member of VOA, said the collaboration came after the foundation reached out to support on-ground operations. “They are happy to contribute in the project submitted by VOA to distribute household goods including beds, mattresses, gas stoves, fans, water purifiers etc. to about 500 homes affected by floods and adopted collectively,” Arora noted.

“These villages are mostly located alongside the banks of river Ravi and hit hard by the floods. We had shortlisted five villages earlier and will begin work with the two most affected,” he added.

VOA’s relief efforts are also receiving support from Care Foundation, a long-standing non-profit based in Kolkata. Meanwhile, VOA teams, alongside doctors from AIIMS, are providing medical assistance in Amritsar and Gurdaspur districts.

Arora said the organization has already been supplying food, dry rations, medicines and clothes to families in need. “We have prepared a project report on the rehabilitation work as well and will be expanding the scope of the ground operations according to our supplies of relief material,” he said.

The reconstruction work is expected to begin shortly, with focus on restoring homes and ensuring families have essential household items to restart their lives.
