Chandigarh, Feb 23: The Haryana Government’s handling of sports incentives and recruitment came under scrutiny in the Vidhan Sabha on Monday as Kaithal MLA Aditya Surjewala presented figures detailing a backlog in player benefits. The legislator declared that the data provided by the administration reveals a pattern of negligence toward athletes and coaches who represent the state.
Surjewala asserted that the rejection and pendency rates for cash awards and scholarships from 2019 to 2025 raise serious questions about the transparency of the current system. He noted that over 1,300 athletes are still waiting for cash awards that are intended to fund their ongoing training and equipment costs.
“The OSP and ESP rules clearly say that medal winners at national and international levels are eligible for jobs in Group A and Group B,” Surjewala affirmed. “Despite this, they are not being appointed in these categories.”
The legislator pointed to a discrepancy in the scholarship program, where nearly 10,000 applications have not resulted in approvals. He maintained that the upward trend in pending files—specifically the jump to 684 unresolved cases in 2024—demonstrates a lack of administrative urgency.
The MLA also addressed the shortfall in Group-C recruitments under the sports quota. He stated that despite a proposal for over 1,000 vacancies, less than half have been advertised through the Haryana Staff Selection Commission. He further noted that the process for the 447 advertised posts remains incomplete.
Surjewala questioned the criteria used for rejecting applications, asking the government to clarify whether the selection process remains fair for those winning medals at the national level. He declared that the delay in providing financial support on time undermines the efforts of players bringing prestige to Haryana.
