CALGARY, FEB 24: A wave of violence in northeast Calgary has prompted a police investigation into a shooting at the home of Lovjeet Sandhu. The incident is the latest in a series of crimes that authorities believe are tied to ongoing extortion attempts within the city’s South Asian population.

The Calgary Police Service stated that the suspect fled the scene after firing multiple shots at the residence. While an investigation has been launched, the force has not yet confirmed the presence of injuries. This shooting occurred alongside another Sunday morning attack where offenders targeted a different home before fleeing in a white vehicle.

Following the Savanna Park shooting, a claim of responsibility appeared on social media from an account linked to Aarzoo Bishnoi. The post declared an affiliation with the Lawrence Bishnoi criminal network and contained threats directed at specific rivals.

Law enforcement officials addressed the online claims, stating that more forensic evidence is needed to verify the authenticity of the post. They affirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

“At least 28 extortion-related incidents have been reported since the beginning of 2025 in the city,” police stated, adding that 13 of those reports involved shootings.

The authorities asserted that the weekend violence appears to follow a specific pattern seen in previous months. Forensic teams are currently processing the scene at Sandhu’s home to gather ballistics data and identify the suspects involved.
