Tarn Taran, Feb 9: A first-year law student allegedly shot a female classmate to death before turning the weapon on himself inside a classroom in Tarn Taran district on Monday. The incident occurred at a law college located in Usma village just as students were gathering for their morning sessions.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagbir Singh said the assailant, identified as Prince Raj, opened fire on Sandeep Kaur within the college premises. The victim died instantly from a gunshot wound to the head.

“Prince Raj opened fire on Sandeep Kaur in the classroom, leading to her death,” DSP Jagbir Singh said. “Thereafter, he shot himself too.”

The classroom was reportedly empty of faculty as the scheduled lectures had not yet commenced. After shooting Kaur, Raj used the same pistol to shoot himself, leaving him in a critical state. Emergency responders transported him to a local hospital for urgent medical intervention.

Police officials noted that both individuals were enrolled in the first year of the legal program. While the weapon has been recovered, the motive behind the violent outburst remains unknown.

“It is yet to be ascertained why Raj killed Kaur,” the police mentioned, adding that a formal investigation is currently under way to determine the circumstances leading to the shooting.
