Chandigarh, Feb 23: Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday announced that Tata Steel’s new manufacturing facility in Ludhiana is set to commence operations this March. The project, which represents the company’s largest investment in Punjab, has seen its total outlay rise from an initial ₹2,600 crore to ₹3,200 crore.
The Chief Minister stated that the facility is the second largest Tata Steel plant in India, following their primary site in Jamshedpur. He maintained that the establishment of this 0.75 MTPA Electric Arc Furnace facility will significantly bolster the regional industrial ecosystem by generating employment for approximately 2,500 people.
“Tata Steel Group is among the world’s leading steel manufacturers,” Mann declared during a meeting with a senior delegation from the company. “The project reflects the growing confidence of global industry in the state’s progressive policies and stable governance framework.”
The plant, spread across 115 acres near Hi-Tech Valley, is designed to be an environmentally responsible unit. The Chief Minister noted that the facility will utilize 100 percent steel scrap as raw material. He affirmed that this approach reduces carbon emissions compared to traditional blast furnace technology, aligning with the state’s goals for green industrial development.
Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora and Chief Secretary KAP Sinha were present as the Chief Minister asserted that the state government ensured the time-bound execution of the project. Mann declared that the administration remains committed to providing full cooperation for the successful operation and future expansion of the site.
