Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh, March 9 — TDP MP from Vizianagaram, Kalisetti Appala Naidu, has pledged ₹50,000 to women giving birth to a third child, offering a cow as an additional reward if the baby is a boy.
Announcing the initiative during an International Women’s Day event at Rajiv Sports Compound in Vizianagaram, the Lok Sabha member said the incentive would come from his own salary. “This is my personal commitment to encourage larger families,” he stated.
His offer has gained traction on social media, with TDP supporters praising it as a “revolutionary step” for population growth.
The move follows Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP President Chandrababu Naidu’s recent remarks on demographic trends. During his visit to Delhi in March, he raised concerns over South India’s declining birth rates, contrasting them with states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
“I used to advocate family planning, but my perspective has changed. India’s demographic dividend is our strength, and we must manage it wisely for the future,” he said.
In line with this, Naidu announced an extension of maternity leave for women employees, removing the previous cap of two children.
Speaking at an International Women’s Day event in Markapur, Prakasam district, he stated, “Maternity leave will now cover all children, regardless of number. This will support women in balancing their careers and families while strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s future.” He later reiterated the decision on ‘X’.
