Moga, Dec 14: A school teacher couple was killed early Sunday morning after their car skidded off the road and plunged into a canal near Sangatpura village in the Baghapurana area of Moga district, police said.
The deceased were identified as Kamaljit Kaur and her husband Jas Karan Singh, both government school teachers posted in Moga district.
Police said the accident occurred amid dense fog, which drastically reduced visibility in the area. “The car appears to have gone off the road due to poor visibility caused by fog,” an official said.
Kamaljit Kaur had been deputed for election duty at a polling booth in Sangatpura village and was travelling with her husband from their residence in Dhurkot Ransinh village when the accident took place.
“The vehicle lost control and fell into the canal. Both occupants died on the spot,” the official said.
Police and administrative teams reached the site after being alerted by locals and later retrieved the bodies from the canal.
