Amritsar, March 11: The Association of United College Teachers (AUCT), Punjab and Chandigarh, has strongly condemned a recent resolution passed by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) regarding the implementation of the 7th Pay Scale in its managed colleges. The association maintained that the new provisions, effective from February 1, 2026, introduce a discriminatory framework that unfairly impacts unaided teachers and principals.

AUCT President Tarun Ghai stated that Resolution No. 172, adopted by the SGPC’s education committee, has triggered widespread resentment across the academic community. He asserted that while aided staff are slated to receive full benefits, unaided teachers are being offered the scale with zero dearness allowance (DA) and a restricted 8 per cent house rent allowance (HRA) without any arrears. Ghai declared that such a move institutionalizes discrimination and undermines the service security of educators who have been contributing significantly to these institutions.

The association further affirmed that these provisions violate statutory norms governing affiliated colleges under Panjab University, Punjabi University, and Guru Nanak Dev University. AUCT General Secretary Jaspal Singh declared that the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission should be extended uniformly to all teachers, regardless of their aided or unaided status, in alignment with Punjab Government notifications and UGC guidelines. The association has now urged the Vice-Chancellors of the respective universities to intervene and ensure that the rights of the teaching faculty are protected in accordance with established regulations.
