JALANDHAR, Dec 13— A 16-year-old boy, a relative of former Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural, was stabbed to death late Friday following an alleged dispute over drugs in the Basti Danishmandan area, police said.
The victim, identified as Vikas Angural, was attacked around 10:30 p.m. by three youths armed with sharp-edged weapons. He was rushed to a hospital but died from stab wounds to his chest and head, officials said.
Division No. 5 Station House Officer Yadwinder Singh said investigators have gathered key evidence, including CCTV footage from nearby cameras.
“The accused will be arrested soon. The police have vital clues about their whereabouts,” Singh said.
Eyewitnesses told police the attackers lured Vikas to a vacant plot inside the colony before assaulting him repeatedly. One of the suspects was identified as Kalu, a resident of Basti Danishmandan.
“The accused fled after the attack, but two of their mobile phones fell at the spot,” an eyewitness said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “They even returned briefly and threatened residents not to inform the police.”
Former AAP MLA and current BJP leader Sheetal Angural reached the hospital along with senior party leaders and later visited the crime scene. He said the victim was his cousin’s son.
“Despite repeated appeals, police have failed to check the easy availability of narcotics in Jalandhar West, which has become a crime and drug hotspot,” Angural said.
Police registered a case under Sections 103 (murder) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, along with provisions of the Arms Act.
