Rohtak, June 24: A promising 15-year-old canoeing athlete lost her life after a tragic drowning incident in her native Karontha village in Rohtak district on Monday evening. The casualty occurred immediately following a standard practice session while she was swimming in the village’s primary water body.
The deceased youngster has been identified as Maya, a regular practitioner at the local training site. Following a comprehensive post-mortem examination on Tuesday, officials from the Shivaji Colony police station handed over her body to her grieving family members.
“Several budding athletes were present at the spot,” investigating officer Mamtesh declared when recounting the rescue attempt. “When they noticed Maya struggling in the water, they jumped into the pond and pulled her out. She was rushed to PGIMS Rohtak, but she had died by then.”
Local sports circles noted that the teenager was highly dedicated, routinely utilizing the large village pond for her athletic development every morning and evening. The community has expressed profound sorrow over the sudden loss of a young talent who frequented the local waters.
Law enforcement authorities have initiated a standard inquiry to rule out any external factors surrounding the sudden death.
“The exact cause of death would be ascertained after the autopsy report is received, though preliminary findings suggest drowning,” the officer asserted.
