Chandigarh, 17 January 2025: Punjab is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures due to cold winds moving from the mountains, intensified by recent heavy snowfall and rain in northern regions, according to the Meteorological Department. An orange alert has been issued for several districts, warning of dense fog and reduced visibility.

The districts under the orange alert include Mansa, Sangrur, Patiala, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, and Malerkotla. Visibility in these areas may drop to 50 meters or less. A yellow alert has been issued for the remaining districts, forecasting moderate fog conditions.

The temperature in Punjab dipped noticeably, with daytime readings ranging between 11°C and 20°C on Thursday. The foggy conditions, which began the previous night, contributed to a temperature drop of 3.6 degrees during the day. Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Ferozepur, Faridkot, and Moga were among the districts significantly affected by fog.

The weather department anticipates that the cold conditions will persist in the coming days, urging residents to exercise caution, especially while traveling under reduced visibility conditions.
