Chandigarh, April 21: The spell of Western Disturbance has ended, causing a fresh surge in temperatures across Punjab.
The average maximum temperature in the state rose by 0.6°C, with Bathinda recording the highest at 42.5°C on Sunday.
According to the Meteorological Department, Punjab is likely to witness a further rise of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours.
Experts warn of a rapid change in weather conditions, increasing the intensity of heat in the region.
Despite the recent increase, the current average maximum temperature remains 2.3°C above normal levels, indicating intensified heat stress.
City-wise maximum temperatures recorded were:
Ludhiana: 37.8°C (1.6°C above normal)
Amritsar: 37.0°C (1.7°C above normal)
Pathankot: 38.6°C
Fatehgarh Sahib: 37.4°C
A yellow alert has been issued for a heat wave in neighboring Haryana and Rajasthan on April 23. While no such alert is currently in place for Punjab, mild effects of the heat wave are expected to extend into its districts.
