Ludhiana, Jan 18: Ludhiana police dismantled a major extortion and illegal weapons network following a month-long operation that resulted in the arrest of 10 gang members and the recovery of 12 sophisticated firearms. The crackdown successfully thwarted a plot to extort a prominent businessman based in Gurgaon, as gang members had already conducted a reconnaissance mission and were preparing to open fire at his residence.
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma noted that the arrests followed an intensive period of surveillance and intelligence gathering. The gang utilized encrypted communication applications and a covert pick-and-drop delivery method for weapons to avoid detection by law enforcement.
“These coordinated and strategic operations have resulted in the recovery of 12 sophisticated firearms, numerous live cartridges and the arrest of 10 key operatives,” Commissioner Sharma said. He also directly said that the operation sends a clear message that organized crime has no place in the district.
The investigation initially led to the arrest of eight individuals identified as Jatin Sam, Jaspreet Singh Jasse, Shubham Grover, Jatin Kataria, Rajesh Kannu, Manav, Vikaspal, and Naresh Sethi. Officers seized seven illegal weapons from this group, including two Austrian-made 9mm Glock pistols. These operatives were reportedly acting under the direction of Satinderjeet Singh, popularly known as Goldy Brar, who is currently based abroad.
A second phase of the operation focused on a shooting incident involving Jatin Mattu and Kunal Machhi. Police arrested Mattu and an associate, Mukul, after they allegedly fired upon a victim who is now being treated at DMC Hospital. During this segment of the crackdown, five additional foreign and domestic firearms were seized.
“Operation is underway to apprehend the remaining individuals involved in the crime,” Commissioner Sharma added. Specialized teams from the Crime Branch and Zonal Officers carried out the raids under the direct supervision of senior investigative officials.
