NEW DELHI, APRIL 13 — The Delhi Legislative Assembly was placed on alert Monday after officials received two separate emails threatening to detonate 15 RDX bombs within the complex. The communications, sent to the Speaker’s office and the Assembly Secretariat, specifically referenced the upcoming April 23 elections in Tamil Nadu as a motive for the alleged plot.
Security agencies reported that the messages were written in Hindi and warned of an attack using cyanide gas-filled explosives. The sender maintained that the House would be targeted because of the political movement of S. V. Shekhar, whom the email categorized as a “BJP Brahmin agent” sent to join the DMK in South India.
“Within 3 hours, we’ll carry out blasts in your Delhi Vidhan Sabha with 15 cyanide gas-filled RDX bombs,” the threat stated, according to officials. The message further declared that only certain employees should be evacuated before the alleged detonation.
The incident follows a significant security breach last week, during which a man from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit crashed a vehicle through a VIP gate at the assembly. While the previous intruder, Sarabjit Singh, was reportedly seeking government assistance for a missing relative, authorities declared that the new email threats appear to have a distinct political undertone related to the 2026 assembly polls.
Police stated that a thorough sweep of the premises was conducted, and security has been significantly tightened. Officials affirmed that they are coordinating with cyber-security experts to trace the origin of the emails as the capital remains under a high-vigilance protocol.
