Mohali, June 6:  In a crackdown on narcotics trafficking, Mohali police arrested three persons and seized 50 grams of heroin along with ₹95,000 in suspected drug proceeds on Thursday.

The accused were identified as Gurpreet Singh, and his associates Rahul Sahota and Gobind Singh alias Gopi, both residents of Himmatpura, Gillwali Gate, Amritsar.

The operation was led by Inspector Harminder Singh of the CIA staff under the supervision of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans.

According to a district police spokesperson, Gurpreet Singh was apprehended during a routine checkpoint near Chhivjot Enclave in Kharar, where he was spotted approaching suspiciously from Kurali. Upon searching his bag, officers recovered 50 grams of heroin, leading to his immediate arrest.

A case was registered under Sections 21, 29, 61, and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

During interrogation, Gurpreet confessed to having supplied heroin to Rahul and Gobind. He also admitted to receiving ₹1 lakh in drug payments, police said.

Based on his disclosure, the CIA team conducted a raid at Gillwali Gate and arrested Rahul and Gobind, recovering ₹95,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug transactions.

“All three have been remanded to police custody for further questioning. Efforts are underway to uncover the broader network behind this drug racket,” said a senior police official.

Authorities are now investigating links to other regions and suspects possibly involved in the supply and distribution chain of heroin in Mohali and surrounding areas.
