KAPURTHALA, June 28 — Three people, including two women, lost their lives and 14 others were injured in a tragic road accident on Saturday morning near Gadana village on the Jalandhar-Amritsar national highway, police said.

The incident occurred when a speeding car collided with a pick-up vehicle en route to Dera Beas, according to Dhilwan Station House Officer (SHO) Dalwinderbir Singh. The collision resulted in the immediate death of three occupants of the pick-up, while several others sustained serious injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Kalyan Singh, 60, his wife Parveen Kumari, 58, and a 19-year-old woman, all hailing from Hoshiarpur district. Police said the victims were travelling together to the religious town when the crash took place.

All 14 injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable as of Saturday evening, though a few are under close observation.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances leading to the crash, including the possibility of rash or negligent driving. Traffic on the highway was briefly disrupted but later restored.

The incident has once again raised concerns over road safety and speeding on national highways in Punjab.
