Pune, Maharashtra, 24 October 2024: Three workers were killed and seven others were injured when a temporary water tank at a labor camp collapsed on Thursday morning in the Bhosari area of Pimpri Chinchwad township.

The incident occurred when laborers were bathing under the tank, which was situated 12 feet above the ground.

According to police reports, the wall of the newly constructed water tank may have burst under pressure, causing it to collapse and crush the workers beneath the debris.

“The sudden failure of the tank caught the laborers off guard,” a police official stated, confirming the fatalities and injuries.

The labor camp, home to approximately 1,000 to 1,200 workers from states including Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, has seen an influx of laborers in recent days.

Eyewitnesses said that the workers had come to use the tap near the tank before starting their day’s work when the tragic incident occurred.

Authorities are conducting an investigation into the cause of the collapse and the safety standards of the temporary structures in the area.
