Patna, Oct 19— High drama broke out outside Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad’s residence on Sunday after a ticket aspirant, Madan Sah, broke down in tears, tore his clothes, and rolled on the road in protest against being denied a party nomination for the upcoming Bihar elections.
Sah, who contested from Madhuban in 2020 and finished as runner-up to the BJP candidate, alleged that he was asked to pay ₹2.7 crore for the party ticket but was still denied one. “I was asked to cough up ₹2.7 crore. I managed the money by putting my children’s weddings on hold. Now I am finished. At least, they should return the money,” he said, sobbing before a crowd gathered outside 10 Circular Road, Lalu’s Patna residence.
Videos of the dramatic scene quickly went viral on social media, showing Sah shouting and crying as party workers tried to pacify him.
Sah claimed he had been associated with the RJD for many years and expected the ticket this time based on his past performance and loyalty. “I have worked for the party through thick and thin. I never thought this would happen to me,” he said.
RJD leaders, however, declined to comment on Sah’s allegation of a monetary demand for the ticket. The party has not yet announced its final list of candidates for all seats, and it remains unclear whether Madhuban will be contested by the RJD or one of its allies.
The filing of nomination papers closes on Monday.
