Bettiah, July 27 — In an astonishing incident from Bihar’s West Champaran district, a one-year-old child reportedly killed a cobra by biting it, prompting disbelief and alarm among locals and medical staff alike.

The child, Govind Kumar, was rushed to the government medical college and hospital in Bettiah after he fainted shortly following the encounter with the venomous reptile. Doctors said he remains under observation.

“The boy was referred to us yesterday from a nearby primary health center. He had fainted after chewing on a live snake, which was later identified as a cobra,” said hospital superintendent Dr. Duvakant Mishra.

The incident occurred in Mohachchhi Bankatwa village under Majhaulia block. Family members said the child caught hold of the snake inside their home. His grandmother, who first noticed the incident, told them the cobra was already lifeless by the time she could intervene.

“The cobra lay dead on the floor while the child, too, had collapsed,” Dr. Mishra said. “At present, we are monitoring him closely. Treatment for envenomation will begin if any symptoms develop.”

Medical staff said it is unclear whether the cobra managed to inject venom into the child. “Children are particularly vulnerable to snake venom. That the boy appears stable so far is remarkable,” a hospital official added.

The bizarre episode has left the village and surrounding area stunned. Local residents gathered at the hospital, many struggling to believe the child had survived an encounter that would likely have been fatal for an adult.
