Chandigarh, March 31 — Road users in Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh will face higher toll charges from April 1, as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) revises the user fee at over 50 plazas. The hike, ranging from ₹5 to ₹15, will take effect from midnight.
In the Tricity region, toll rates will increase at the Azizpur plaza on the Zirakpur-Patiala stretch of NH-07, Dhareri Jattan plaza on NH-64, Bhagomajra plaza on the Kharar-Ludhiana section of NH-5, Ghulal plaza on the Chandigarh-Kharar-Ludhiana stretch of NH-5, and Jaloli plaza on the Saha-Barwala-Panchkula section of NH-07 and NH-344. However, the Dappar plaza on the Chandigarh-Ambala highway is excluded from the hike.
At Azizpur, the toll for trucks and buses will rise by ₹5 for a same-day return trip, while charges for cars, jeeps, and vans will remain unchanged.
“In Punjab and Haryana, user fees at more than 50 plazas have been revised. The new rates, applicable nationwide, will come into effect on April 1,” NHAI project director Aashim Bansal said. He added that the revisions are made annually based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation, in line with the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008. For BOT (Toll) plazas, rate revisions occur in September.
Toll charges are determined by factors such as highway type, length, structures, and bypasses. The NHAI calculates rates according to the National Highways Fee Rules, 2008, and relevant concession agreements for Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) plazas.
