Mohali, March 8: A 44-year-old engineer passed away on Saturday after collapsing while playing a corporate cricket match at the Ace Cricket Ground in Sector 87, Mohali.
Belan Sangun, a native of Karnataka, was in the middle of delivering the 16th over of the innings when he suddenly fell to the ground, prompting an immediate rescue effort from his teammates.
The victim was rushed to a nearby private hospital by fellow players, but medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival.
Sangun, who worked for a private firm, is survived by his wife and a young son. Friends of the deceased noted that the tragedy occurred on the same day the family was supposed to be celebrating his son’s birthday.
Sanjita, the victim’s wife, stated that she does not suspect any foul play regarding her husband’s passing.
After reviewing CCTV footage from the sports facility, she maintained that the collapse appeared to be a sudden medical emergency.
“He was simply enjoying the game he loved, but fate had other plans,” his friends mentioned while reflecting on the sudden loss.
Local police officials affirmed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death to fulfill legal formalities.
While the cause of death is believed to be natural, authorities noted that they are awaiting final medical reports.
Friends of the engineer asserted that what should have been a day of celebration for the family has turned into a period of deep sorrow.
