Chandigarh, 31 December 2024 – Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar announced that the state’s Transport Department saw a significant revenue increase of Rs 349.01 crore in 2024, bringing the total to Rs 3546.29 crore compared to Rs 3197.28 crore in the previous year. This marks a 10.91% rise.
Breaking down the gains, Bhullar explained that the State Transport Commissioner (STC) saw a substantial increase, with its revenue growing by Rs 270.74 crore, from Rs 1,855.79 crore to Rs 2,126.53 crore, reflecting a 14.59% boost.
The PEPSU Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) earned Rs 900.98 crore, up Rs 8.53 crore from the previous year’s Rs 892.45 crore. Punjab Roadways/Punbus also made significant gains, from Rs 449.04 crore to Rs 518.78 crore, a rise of Rs 69.74 crore, or 15.53%.
The Minister also accentuated the department’s successful free travel initiative for women, which benefited 14.88 crore women passengers in 2024. This initiative has resulted in a concession amounting to Rs 726.19 crore.
Since April 1, 2022, the Punjab government has invested Rs 1916.92 crore, enabling 40.45 crore free trips for women across the state. Other categories, including police personnel, students, persons with disabilities, and patients with thalassemia and cancer, also receive free or concessional travel benefits.
