CHANDIGARH, JULY 30 — Urgent safety concerns have emerged for 13 Indian seafarers trapped aboard the cargo vessel M.V. AMIR1 at Ukraine’s Chornomorsk port amid ongoing missile and drone strikes in the Black Sea region. Raising distress calls on behalf of the stranded crew, the Forward Seamen’s Union of India reported that 15 total crew members are living under continuous threat as aerial engagements persist near the harbor.
The union urged official intervention to facilitate immediate repatriation, emphasizing that merchant personnel must not remain exposed in high-risk conflict zones.
“Urgent Appeal | M.V. AMIR1, currently at Ukrainian port Chornomorsk with 15 crew on board, including 13 Indian seafarers, is trapped in a terrible and life-threatening situation. Repeated drone and missile attacks are being attempted in the immediate vicinity of the vessel. The crew is living under constant fear of a direct hit at any moment,” declared the Forward Seamen’s Union of India.
Visual footage shared by maritime representatives depicted heavy smoke plumes rising near the docked vessel, underscoring volatile conditions across southern Ukrainian maritime corridors. The development follows recent diplomatic engagements where Indian officials lodged formal representations regarding maritime safety and the security of civilian crews operating in the Black Sea.
