LUDHIANA, May 10 – The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police have detained two individuals accused of circulating fake videos on social media that triggered panic among the public, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rupinder Singh announced on Saturday.

The arrests followed swift action by the cyber cell of Ludhiana Police, which launched an investigation after receiving complaints regarding the videos. The suspects were tracked through their personal social media accounts, where the misleading content had been posted.

“We have zero tolerance for misinformation,” DCP Singh told reporters at a press conference. “Those responsible for spreading such content will face strict legal action.”

He added that a detailed examination of the suspects’ social media activity is ongoing, with authorities probing for any further offenses. According to Singh, the fake videos disrupted public order and created unnecessary fear, hindering the district administration’s ongoing efforts to maintain peace.

The DCP appealed to the public to act responsibly online, urging residents to verify the authenticity of any content before sharing it. “We all share the responsibility to preserve communal harmony,” he said. “Everyone must rely on credible, official channels for information.”

DCP Singh also acknowledged the critical role played by the Ludhiana Police’s cybercrime and social media units, which continue to monitor online activity in real time. He encouraged citizens to report suspicious posts or seek assistance via the helpline number 78370-18500 or the emergency line 112.

District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Ludhiana Puneet Pal Singh Gill also issued a public advisory, warning residents about the legal consequences of circulating unverified content. He urged people to follow the official accounts of the Deputy Commissioner and the DPRO on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter) for accurate updates.

“For any queries or reports related to power blackouts or law and order, residents can contact the control rooms of District Administration Ludhiana at 0161-2403100, Police Commissionerate Ludhiana at 78370-18500, Ludhiana (Rural) Police at 8556019100, Khanna Police at 9592914053, or dial Emergency 112,” Gill added.

Authorities reiterated that sharing false content is not just irresponsible—it is illegal, and will be dealt with accordingly.
