Amritsar, Dec 7: Bathinda police arrested two city residents after seizing 1.5 kg of heroin from their vehicle near the Jeeda toll plaza on the Bathinda–Amritsar national highway on Saturday, officials said.
The suspects, identified as Manpreet Singh and Sandeep Singh, were stopped by a Crime Investigation Agency (CIA-2) team during routine checking. Superintendent of police (Rural) Hina Gupta said officers found the heroin concealed inside the car after a search. “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused brought the narcotic from Amritsar and we are working to find the supplier,” she said.
Gupta said Manpreet was unemployed and had been named in five criminal cases since 2017, while Sandeep also faces ongoing inquiry. “Their interrogation is continuing. More arrests are likely once we identify the source,” she added.
Police said a case has been registered and the recovered contraband has been sent for chemical analysis.
