FARIDKOT, July 31 — Two men were injured after a gunfight broke out between rival groups on Kotkapura Road here on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic across the area.
According to police, the confrontation began when Gurleen Singh, reportedly affiliated with one of the factions, was travelling by car and was intercepted by 10 to 15 individuals from the opposing group. The attackers allegedly vandalised his vehicle and opened fire.
“Prima facie it appears to be a targeted attack,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Tarlochan Singh. “We are analysing CCTV footage to identify everyone involved. No one will be spared.”
While there is speculation that Gurleen may have returned fire in self-defense, police have not officially confirmed this. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine whether shots were fired from both sides.
One person from each group sustained bullet injuries and was taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Both are reported to be stable.
The police have initiated efforts to trace and recover the firearms used during the confrontation. “We will arrest those involved and recover the weapons soon,” the DSP said, adding that the motive behind the clash appeared to be rooted in an ongoing rivalry.
The incident has heightened tensions in the city, though police presence in the area has since been stepped up to prevent further violence.
