Jalandhar, October 10 —The Counter Intelligence (CI) unit of Jalandhar has busted a Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) module with the arrest of two operatives and the recovery of an RDX-based improvised explosive device (IED) weighing nearly 2.5 kg, officials said on Friday.

The arrested men have been identified as Gurjinder Singh, alias Rinku, a resident of Athwal village in Gurdaspur, and Deewan Singh, alias Nikku, of Nikko Saran Kalan in the same district. Police have also seized a remote control device and a black Hero Splendor motorcycle used by the accused.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said both suspects were working on the directions of UK-based handlers Nishan Jaurian and Adesh Jamarai, who were operating under the command of BKI mastermind Harwinder Singh, alias Rinda. “Preliminary investigations indicate that the recovered RDX-based IED was intended for a targeted terror attack,” DGP Yadav said.

He added that, acting on reliable intelligence, CI Jalandhar teams launched an operation and intercepted the suspects in the Guru Nanakpura area of Jalandhar, where they were allegedly en route to deliver the explosive consignment to another contact. “Further investigations are underway to identify the intended recipients and uncover the full network,” the DGP stated.

Police sources said the seizure of the high-intensity IED and remote control suggests that the module was in an advanced stage of planning an attack aimed at creating panic and disruption in Punjab.

An FIR has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Explosive Substances Act at the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) police station in Amritsar.

Senior officers said more arrests are likely as agencies continue to trace the handlers and potential local accomplices of the module.
