NEW DELHI, Oct 6 — The Election Commission of India on Monday announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 6 and November 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said over 7.4 crore people are eligible to vote in the upcoming polls, including about 14 lakh first-time voters. He assured that the elections would be conducted in a “transparent and peaceful manner.”
“There are a total of 7.42 crore voters in Bihar, of which 3.92 crore are males and 3.5 crore are women,” Kumar said at a press conference. “Among them are 14 lakh first-time voters, 4 lakh senior citizens, and nearly 14,000 voters aged above 100 years.”
The CEC said the state will have 90,712 polling stations, and strict instructions have been issued to ensure zero tolerance toward any form of violence or intimidation. “There is no scope for any threat to voters or candidates,” he said.
Meanwhile, bypolls for eight Assembly constituencies across India — including Tarn Taran in Punjab, and Budgam and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir — will also take place on November 11. Votes for these seats will be counted along with the Bihar election results on November 14.
The Election Commission said all necessary security and logistical arrangements are being made to ensure free and fair voting in both phases.
