MOHALI, Oct 7— Acting within hours of a reported vehicle theft, Gharuan police recovered two stolen SUVs and arrested two men on Sunday, tracing them across multiple states before nabbing them near the Rajasthan border.
According to police, a call was received on the helpline about a stolen car early Sunday morning. Within 12 hours, a team led by Station House Officer (SHO) Sub-Inspector Balwinder Singh traced the suspects’ movements using CCTV footage and GPS tracking, eventually recovering a Mahindra Thar and a Maruti Fronx.
The accused were identified as Kunal of Rewari and Prince of Mahendragarh, both from Haryana. They were apprehended in Mahendragarh while attempting to cross into Rajasthan. A third suspect, identified as Armaan, remains absconding.
Investigators said the accused had taken the stolen vehicles through multiple routes, stopping at several petrol pumps in Morinda, Ambala, Nar Road, and Jaipur. “At every stop, they refuelled and fled without making payment,” said an officer involved in the probe.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 304, 126(1), and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). SHO Balwinder Singh said the operation was carried out under the supervision of DSP Kharar Karan Sandhu. “Raids are being conducted to apprehend the third accused who is still on the run,” he mentioned.
Police officials noted that the swift recovery of the vehicles within 12 hours reflects improved coordination among police units across districts and prompt response to public complaints.
