Ludhiana, Nov 11: A woman’s body was found stuffed inside a sack along the Alamgir Bypass in Ludhiana’s Dugri area on Tuesday morning, prompting police investigation and shock among locals.

Residents first spotted the sack lying by the roadside and noticed it appeared unusually heavy. “When we went closer, it looked suspicious, so we informed the sarpanch,” a local resident said. The sarpanch rushed to the spot and, on closer inspection, saw what seemed to be a hand sticking out from the bag.

Police from the Dugri station soon arrived and opened the sack in the sarpanch’s presence, revealing the body of a woman believed to be in her early thirties. The body was taken to the civil hospital for postmortem.

“The woman appears to be between 30 and 35 years of age. Her identity is not yet known,” a police officer said. “It seems someone dumped the body here at night. We are scanning CCTV footage and checking nearby areas to trace those responsible.”

Officers said a case will be registered once the postmortem and identification are complete. Investigators are also contacting neighbouring police stations to see if any missing person report matches the victim’s description.
