MORADABAD, May 19 — The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a man for allegedly operating as an agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), officials said on Monday.
Identified as Shahzad, the accused was apprehended by the STF’s Moradabad unit on Sunday following intelligence inputs linking him to cross-border smuggling and espionage activities.
“He was allegedly passing sensitive information related to national security to his handlers,” the STF said in an official statement, adding that Shahzad has been booked under multiple sections, including provisions related to espionage.
According to investigators, Shahzad had made multiple trips to Pakistan over the years. During these visits, he reportedly engaged in smuggling items such as cosmetics, clothing, spices, and other goods, allegedly under the guise of trade, while covertly working for the ISI.
Authorities are now probing the extent of his network and the type of information that may have been compromised. Further questioning and a detailed investigation are underway.
