Lucknow, Oct 6: The Uttar Pradesh government released ₹460.23 crore on Tuesday to cover two months of honorarium for 1,27,841 Shikshamitra teachers under the Samagra Shiksha scheme, formalizing an 80 percent pay increase.
Under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s directive, the monthly honorarium for these contractual educators has been raised from ₹10,000 to ₹18,000 for the 2026–27 academic year.
The state treasury disbursed ₹230.11 crore for September and an identical sum of ₹230.11 crore for October to ensure prompt distribution across all districts.
Local authorities have received specific disbursement schedules to transfer the upgraded funds directly to teachers’ accounts without administrative delays.
Official statements noted that the substantial financial commitment aims to improve living standards for para-teachers, encouraging greater dedication within the basic education sector.
“The Yogi government has strengthened the economic interests of Shikshamitra teachers by significantly increasing their honorarium,” stated Sandeep Singh, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education.
“The release of ₹460.23 crore for September and October, along with the increased honorarium, further strengthens the government’s commitment towards Shikshamitra teachers.”
Educational administrators highlighted that stable financial backing directly enhances classroom instruction and student engagement throughout primary schools.
“The increase in honorarium will provide additional financial support to Shikshamitra teachers,” affirmed Monika Rani, Director General of School Education.
“This will enable them to discharge their responsibilities in schools with greater enthusiasm and commitment and contribute to strengthening the learning process of students.”
