Uttar Pradesh to Triple Exports by Amid Global Trade Shift

Lucknow, April 26— The Uttar Pradesh government has set a goal of tripling its exports by 2030, banking on the ongoing trade war between the United States and China to reposition itself as a global investment hub, according to an official statement released Saturday.

The Yogi Adityanath-led administration said the economic standoff between the two global powers offers a significant opening for India, and Uttar Pradesh is preparing to seize the moment. Officials said the state’s improving law and order situation, modern infrastructure, and a large, skilled workforce position it as an attractive destination for businesses looking to shift operations away from China.

“To turn this potential into reality, the state government is working on a new export policy,” the statement said, adding that ‘Invest UP’ will be made more efficient and transparent to better engage investors and attract foreign direct investment.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while frequently addressing public platforms, has credited the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative for fueling export growth. “Since the launch of ODOP, the state’s exports have surged from Rs 88,967 crore to over Rs 2 lakh crore,” he said.

Officials expressed confidence that recent infrastructural advancements — including expressways, expanded domestic and international airports, and inter-state waterways — along with competitive labor costs and a vibrant MSME sector, will further bolster export growth.

The upcoming export policy will also introduce an Export Promotion Fund, aimed at enhancing the global visibility of ‘Brand UP,’ the statement noted.

Promoting Uttar Pradesh’s products internationally remains a key part of the strategy. The government will host the International Trade Show at the India Expo Centre and Mart in Greater Noida from September 25 to 27, with Vietnam serving as the partner country this year. “The show will offer lakhs of people from India and more than 70 other countries the chance to experience Brand UP,” officials said.

In an effort to maximize outreach, the state plans large-scale promotional campaigns in Maharashtra, southern states, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Indore, and at major airports and railway stations nationwide.

The government also underlined Uttar Pradesh’s leadership in leather and footwear exports, contributing 46 percent of India’s total share in the sector. To strengthen this position, a dedicated Leather and Footwear Policy is in the works, which would make UP the second state after Tamil Nadu to introduce such a policy. The move is expected to benefit manufacturing hubs like Kanpur, Unnao, and Agra.

Highlighting the stakes, officials pointed to China’s current dominance in everyday goods exports to the US — $148 billion annually, accounting for a 72 percent market share — compared to India’s modest 2 percent. Many of these goods are produced by MSMEs, an area where Uttar Pradesh already leads with over 96 lakh units.

“To help MSMEs compete globally, we conduct regular training programs focused on product quality and competitiveness,” the statement added. “This has led to a noticeable increase in exports, especially for ODOP products.”

The government said it remains confident that the combination of infrastructural growth, sector-specific policies, and global branding will drive Uttar Pradesh toward its 2030 export target.
