Zirakpur, 27 February 2025 — Zirakpur police have arrested two members of a Rajasthan-based vehicle theft gang, two weeks after an Indian Air Force officer’s Tata Harrier was stolen from Aerocity.
The accused, Abhishek Yadav, 25, and Narender, 32, were nabbed in Zirakpur, while their alleged leader, Manish Solanki, remains at large.
The car, stolen on February 9 from I-Block, Aerocity, was traced to the Rajasthan-Uttar Pradesh border, where police recovered it from its sixth buyer.
“The gang used software installed on a laptop to steal Tata vehicles,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Zirakpur Jaspinder Singh Gill.
Solanki, the mastermind, has multiple theft cases against him, while Narender has been booked twice in Rajasthan.
“The trio met in jail and formed the gang. Efforts are underway to arrest Solanki and recover the laptop,” Gill added.
In a separate operation, Zirakpur police arrested five men with a stolen motorcycle. Identified as Aman, 19, and Narender, 24, of Banur; Irfan, 20, of Dera Bassi; and Joginder, 37, and Gurjant Singh, 23, of Pabhat, they were initially suspected of drug peddling.
“A tip-off led us to them, but no contraband was found. A stolen bike with a Chandigarh registration was recovered, and Gurjant has a prior criminal record,” DSP Gill said.
Meanwhile, Dhakoli police arrested local resident Deepak Sharma with 6 grams of heroin. “Sharma sourced the drugs from a peddler in Zirakpur. He has been booked under the NDPS Act,” police said.
